Vision Flashcards
thin layer of cells that lines the inside of your eyelids from the eye.
Conjuctiva
where is light focused by the lens of the eye?
Fovea of the retina
what is the ciliary body and what is it composed of?
it secrets aqueous humor
1) Ciliary Ligament
2) Ciliary Muscle
a jelly like substance to provide pressure to eyeball and gives nutrients to inside of eyeball
Vitreous Humor
what area of the eye contains rods and cones
Retina
What is the photo Transduction Cascade?
is the process of rod turning from
ON to OFF
List the photo Transduction cascade
Light hits rods (which causes rod turns off)
->bipolar cell (turns on)-> retinal ganglion cell (turns on) ->optic nerve–>
BRAIN
These cells are found in the retina. They send visual signals from the rods to cones
Bipolar cells
what cells send signals to the bipolar cells and where are they found?
- Ganglion Cells
- Retina (imagine gag of lions standing on polar bars standing on Cones)
what are the two theories of color vision? and how are they different?
1) Trichomatic Theory- we have cones for 3 colors: red, green, and blue
2) Opponent Process Theory- we have cones for 4 colors: Red, green, blue and yellow
what is wrong with Trichomatic Theory and how is Opponent Processing theory a better explanation of color processing ?
Trichomatic theory doesnt explain why red and green or blue and yellow cant mix
Opponent processing theory : explains that some colored cones oppose each other
Thousands of these Large membrane bound structures inside of rods
Optic discs
(This Component of a Rod) If light hits It will trigger the Phototransduction cascade
Rhodopsin
Which does the eye have more of Rods or Cones?
Rods
___ is 1000x more sensitive to light than____
Rods, cones
