Viscera of Neck Flashcards
What are the neck viscera?
Pharynx, larynx, trachea, submandibular gland, esophagus, endocrine glands
What is the arterial support of submandibular gland?
Lingual, facial artery
What is included in the submandibular gland?
Submandibular triangle, Wharton’s duct
What is the lymph of the submandibular gland?
Submandibular nodes -> inferior deep cervical
What is the innervation of the submandibular gland?
Cranial nerve VII
What is the sympathetic (vasomotor) innervation of submandibular gland?
IML, T1-4 -> SCG, external carotid nerve
What is the parasympathetic innervation of submandibular gland?
chorda tympani (CN VII) -> lingual (CN V)
What is the GSA to the connective tissue capsule of the submandibular gland?
CN V (lingual n, CN V)
Significance of tubercle of Zuckerandl?
Inferior thyroid artery, and recurrent laryngeal nerve -> where the nerve could get injured when ligating the artery
Where is the lymphatic drainage of the thyroid?
Level VI -> pretracheal/prelaryngeal, paratracheal, superior deep cervical (level II), inferior deep cervical (level IV)
What layers must be transversed to reach thyroid gland?
investing fascia
infrahyoid
pretracheal/bucco
prevertebral/alar
carotid sheath
What is the parathyroid gland usually?
Typically four, lies between the posterior borders of the thyroid and its capsule, and location is highly variable
