Vascular Intervention Radiology Flashcards
why is this a preferred option?
it is minimally invasive compared to surgery
how do you calculate the ankle brachial pressure index?
highest reading of leg (posterior tibial artery) and arm (radial) pressure and divide ankle pressure (systolic of foot interested in) by the higher pressure
what is a normal range?
1-1.2
what is the course of the aorta in the pelvis?
the aorta makes the common iliac which then forms the internal and external. The external then passes below the inguinal ligament into the femoral triangle and gives off the profunda femoris. The superficial femoral continues to the thigh and forms the popliteal which then branches into the anterior tibial and trunk that divides into peroneal and posterior tibial artery
what are some complications of coronary angiogram?
bruising, infection, dissection of artery when goes in leading to occlusion and clot going further down leg
what is a pseudo-aneurysm?
an aneurysm that does not involve the vessel wall layers - even more prone to rupturing as the only thing it contains is the surrounding connective tissue
why is an MR angiography unsuitable for some patients?
they may be claustrophobic or have a pacemaker
what are treatment options for clots?
endovascular - thrombolysis, angioplasty and stenting and aspiration/thromboectomy or surgery - bypass or surgical thromboectomy/embolectomy
