The Forearm and Wrist Flashcards
what is Colles fracture?
distal radius fracture that is really common
how many bones are in the wrist?
8 - there is a joint between each of these
what are the movements of the wrist?
flexed, extended, abducted and adducted
what is the wrist joint?
articulation formed between scaphoid, lunate and distal radius
which muscles allow extension of wrist?
those in posterior forearm
where are the points of origin and what is the name for these?
they are found on the humerus, radius and ulna and are the epicondyles
what are muscles in the anterior forearm innervated by?
median or ulnar nerve
where are the insertions of the muscles in the anterior forearm and palm?
PL into palm, FCU/FCR into metacarpals, FDS/FDP into the fingers and FPL into thumb
which muscle is absent in some people?
palmaris longus
which muscles are important for grip power?
FDS/FDP
is FDS or FDP able to flex the most distal joints in digits?
FDP only
which side is the ulnar nerve and which side is radial?
ulnar is medial and radial is lateral (thumb)
which epicondyles do the flexors/extensors come off?
medial epicondyle for the flexors and lateral of humerus for the extensors
how many muscles are contained in the posterior forearm/wrist?
9 supplied by radial nerve
what are the muscles in posterior forearm and wrist?
ECU, RL and RB - insert into metacarpals, ED, EDM and EI insert into the fingers, EPL, EPB and AP insert into the thumb
