Validity & Reliability Flashcards
What is validity?
Trying to accurately measure psychological concepts.
What are the types of external validity?
-Ecological validity
-Population validity
What is the type of internal validity?
-Construct validity
What is ecological validity?
Whether the measure of behaviours resembles real-life.
What is population validity?
Whether the sample used in the research is diverse and representative, making the results generalisable to the target population.
What is construct validity?
Refers to whether the study is really measuring what it’s supposed to and what extraneous variables are controlled for.
What is concurrent validity?
The comparison of an already valid test to a new test to see if they share similar results.
What is reliability?
Whether a study is measuring behaviour in a consistent way.
What is internal reliability?
Whether the research has been kept standardised for all participants such that it could be replicable by another researcher to see if they get the same results.
What is external reliability?
Whether the research has been carried out on multiple participants. If there is a large enough sample size to establish consistent effect.
What is inter-rater reliability?
This is relevant when there are multiple observers who watch the same participants.
