Q

What is the summary of Wells?

A

Wells aimed to investigate several questions such as whether men and women personalise their workspace differently and whether personalisation is associated with improved well-being amongst workers.

They recruited participants from across 20 companies in Orange County with 15 or more employees and received 338 completed questionnaires. These asked respondents about how much they personalise their workspace, their satisfaction with the workplace environment, as well as job satisfaction and well-being.
A follow-up case study was later done, involving 15 minute interviews carried out with 23 employees from these companies and also involving taking photographs of their work stations.

Results showed that women personalised their work space more than men and tended to use items that represented family, friends and pets, whereas men were more likely to display items relating to personal achievement and sporting interests. There was also a strong correlation between the amount of personalisation and job satisfaction and wellbeing (health).

Q

What is Middlemist about?

A

Puts were made to use the far left urnial of a 3 set, confederate was either next to the pits or left a urinal gap, so used the right urinal or no confederate was in the control group. Observations were made via stopwatch and hidden periscope. The DV’s were time between unzipping and beginning of urinations and time spent urinating.

Results confirmed the assumption that personal space invasions cause physiological arousal with the closer interpersonal distance and increasing the delay and decreasing the persistence of urination.
