v02 max Flashcards
vo2 max definition
max volume of oxygen that can be taken in and consumed by body in 1 minute
vo2 max calculation
02 breathed in-02 breathed out=consumption of oxygen
relationship between consumption of 02(v02) and inensity of exercise
as intensity increases so does consumption of 02 until reaches zone of v02-then plateus and will need to use anaerobic exercises, becuase intensity is risng but amount of oxygen perfomer able to consume stays consistent as has reached demand
factors affecting V02 max
physiology-
having more slow twitch muscle fibres
higher capillary density-where gaseous exchange takes place, then better at exchanging oxygen in those areas
greater amount of mitochondria-better enabled to perform aerobically
greater alveoli surface area-means more gaseous exchange and getting oxygen into blood
hameoglobin level-
another factor
genetics
inherited factors of physiology limit possible movement
another factor
training
v02 max can be imporved by training types aerobi training such as continous, fartlek etc
as imporve our stamina
another factor
lifesytle
how healthy are you
how regulary you exercise
whether individual smokes
diet
another factor
age
as get older, our vo2 max declines as our body systems become less efficient
another factor
gender
male v02 max tends to be higher then female vo2
may be due to lifesytle differences
mey be due to hormones of testerone producing lean muscle tissue
another factor
body consumption
a higher percenatge of body fat decreases v02 max
if heavier, less effiecnet as have to move more weight, decreasing V02
acroymn for remember factors that affect c02 max
Physiology-greater cpileery density, mitochondria, alevoli surface
