Phenazopyridine
Turns urine orange
Urinary analgesic
For burning pain
Nitrofurantoin
Give 3-4 x a day short acting
Long acting given 2x. A day
Treat and prevent uti
(If pt has past of frequent uti)
Other antibiotics
Ampicillin
Amoxicillin
Cephalosporin
Treat uncomplicated UTI (not caused from a disease process)
Why do we like cephlasporins?
Low toxicity
Broad spectrum
Cheaper
Fluroquinolones
Treat complicated UTI
(Cipro , ciprofloxacin most common )
GI upset , (caution in pt with severe renal impairment ,and cns disorders
Amphotericin or fluconazole
Choice of anti fungal
(UTI secondary to fungi)
Lower , upper
Amphotericin (terrible)
Can’t give with saline
Cipro
Caution should be used for severe renal impairment or CNS disorders
