Lumbar puncture
Contraindicated in clients with increased ICP ( can cause hemorrhage and increase pressure. Avoid in pt that were in car accidents )
Contraindicated in clients with skin infections at or near puncture site (staph infections)
Post op for LP
Bed rest in flat position for 4-8 hours
Encourage fluids to facilitation CSF production
Administer analgesics ( headaches)
Monitor neuro signs
Watch for signs of chemical or bacterial meningitis
(Fever, stiff neck, photophobia)

Can be up to two hours
Why should tranquilers and stimulants, coffee tea and chocolate be avoided for eeg?
Can change brain wave patterns
