Posterior division fibers of Brachial plexus
Axillary
Radial
C5 & C6 Nerves
Suprascapular
Musculocutaneous
Axillary
C8 & T1 nerve
Ulnar
Musculocutaneous Nerve Muscle innervation
All muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm
Primary action of Musculocutaneous nerve
Fleb elbow
Supination (bicept brachii)
Median N. Muscles in the forearm
Anterior compartment except:
- Flexor carpi ulnaris
- Ulnar half of the flexor digitorum profundus
Primary action of Median N in forearm
Flex writs and ALL digits
Pronation
Median N muscles in hand
- Thenar compartment: opposition of thumb
- Central compartement (Lumbricals of Digit 2 and 3): Flexion of Metacarpophalangeal and extends interphalangeal joints of Digits 2 and 3
Ulnar N Muscles in Forearm
Anterior compartment: Flex wrist (weak) and digits 4 and 5
Ulnar nerve muscle of Hand
- Hypothenar compartment
- Central compartment (interossei muscles: Palmar and Dorsal)
- Dorsal: Abduct digits 2-5 (DAB)
- Palmar: Adduct digits 205 (PAD)
- Lumbricals: Digits 4 & 5
- Adductor pollicis
Dorsal Scapular N muscle
Rhomboid
Long thoracic N muscle
Serratus anterior
Subscapular N muscle
Supraspinatus: Abduct shoulder
Infraspinatus: Laterally rotate shoulder
Erb-Duchenne Palsy
Waiter’s Tip Syndrome
C5 and C6
- Affects:
- Axillary
- Subrascapular
- Musculocutaneous
- Sighs:
- Arm is medially rotated and adducted at the shoulder
- Limb is pulled into aduction and medial rotation
- Forearm is extended and pronated
- Sensory loss on Lateral forearm to base of thumb
Klumpke’s Paralysis
C8 and T1
- Affects:
- Ulnar N
- Median N
- Signs:
- Claw hand
- Ape hand
- Horner syndrome
- Sensory loss on medial forearm and medial 1.5 digits
Hand of benediction seen in
Median Nerve injury at elbow (supracondylar fracture of humerus)
Loss of digital flexion of lateral 3 digits
Ape hand
Median N injury at elbow (Supracondylar fracture of humerus)
Loss of thum opposition
Thenar atrophy seen in
Median N injury at elbow (supracondylar fracture of humerus)
Ulnar N damage leads to
Loss of hypothenar, third and fourth lumbricals, all interossei, and adductur pollicis
Ulnar N damage leads to what deviation
Radial deviation
Anterior boundry of Carpal tunnel
Flexor retinaculum
Posterior boundry of Carpal tunnel
Proximal row of Carpal bones (Lunate)
SITS of Rotator Cuff
- Supraspinatus
- Infraspinatus
- Teres minor
- Subscapularis
Most frequently damaged muscle in Rotator Cuff injury
Supraspinatus
