Cause of infectious disease
Pathogens
Infectious disease
Illness caused by pathogens that enter the body, multiply, and cause infection.
Cause of non-infectious disease
Genetics, environment
Non-infectious disease
Disease not caused by pathogens, and therefore cannot be spread from person to person.
Infectious disease examples
Covid, flu, mono, cold, strep throat, pink eye, norovirus, ebola, HIV, pneumonia, chicken pox.
Non-infectious disease examples
Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease.
Plague cause
An infection from a bacterium (Yersinia pestis) that is carried by fleas.
Plague symptoms
Fever, headache, chills.
Malaria cause
The plasmodium parasite carried by mosquitoes.
Malaria symptoms
Recurrent flu-like symptoms.
Tuberculosis cause
A bacterium (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) spread through the air.
Tuberculosis symptoms
Weakness, night sweats, coughing blood. Primarily affects the lungs.
West nile cause
It lives in species of birds and is transmitted among birds by mosquitoes.
West nile symptoms
Inflammation of the brain.
SARS/MERS cause
A type of flu caused by coronavirus.
