Unit 3: Biodiversity Flashcards
Genetic Diversity
Genetic variation among the population of an ecosystem. Ex: Skin color.
Species Diverstiy
The number of different species in a region or habitat and their relative abundance.
Habitat Diversity
The variety of habitats that exist within a given region.
Species Richness
The number of species in a given area. Gives an approximate level of biodiversity.
Species Eveness
The relative proportion of individuals within the different species of a given area. Shows which species are abundant.
What do high and low numbers tell us about biodiversity?
A high number means high biodiversity, low means low.
More biodiversity = _______ ____________ to disturbances.
More resistant
Bottleneck effect
A drastic decrease in genetic diversity of a species due to a sudden decrease in population.
