Difference between native and exotic species
Native species are species living in their historical range, exotic species are moved from their historic range to somewhere they are not from.
Why are all exotic species not invasive?
A small percentage of of exotic species are able to live in their new habitat and have no negative effect.
Exotic species can sometimes be beneficial, but when are they considered invasive?
When the exotic species rapidly increases in population and causes harmful effects on native species.
Why might an invasive species out compete a native species?
They have no natural competitors or predators.
What are some ways to control invasive species?
Inspection of international goods, prohibition of untreated packing crates, dewatering, and hunting.
