Organsims that are unable to make their own energy or photosynthesize consume other organsims to get energy.
Herbivore
A consumer that eats producers.
Primary Consumer
A consumer that eats producers.
Carnivore
A consumer that eats other consumers.
Secondary Consumer
Carnivores that eat primary consumers.
Tertiary Consumer
Carnivores that eat secondary consumers.
Trophic level
The succesive levels of organisms consuming one another.
Food Chain
The sequence of consumption from producers to tertiary consumers.
Food Web
A complex model of how energy and matter move between trophic levels.
Scavenger
Organisms that consume dead animals.
Decomposer
Bacteria that can convert organic matter into small elements that can be recycled back in the ecosystem.
Detritvore
An organism that feeds on dead and decaying organic matter.
