Unit 2: Watershed Flashcards
What is a watershed?
All of the land in a given landscape that drains into a particular body of water.
What do scientists use water shed for?
Preventing erosion, testing water quality, checking fish habitats, and flood control.
How does area affect water quality in a watershed?
The greater the area the worse the water quality because larger areas will have more pollutants.
How does length affect water quality in a watershed?
The longer the length the worse the water quality because there will be increased runoff.
How does slope affect water quality in a watershed?
The greater the slope the worse the water quality because there will be more runoff.
How does soil affect water quality in a watershed?
Clay soil will create low water quality because there is more runoff.
How does vegetation affect water quality in a watershed?
More vegetation, better quality because plants hold water decreasing runoff.
______ is bad, ________ is good.
Runoff, infiltration
