unit 4, DNA in euk/pro/mitochondria/chloroplast Flashcards
1
Q
what are the similarities of DNA in prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
A
- dna is made of nucleotides, a nitrogenous base, a phosphate group and a deoxyribose
- phosphodiester bonds
2
Q
what are the differences of DNA in prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
A
-prokaryotic has circular dna whereas eukaryotes have linear
- eukaryotes are associated with protiens ( histones ) prokaryotic are not
- eukaryotic are longer whereas prokayotic are shorter
3
Q
what do mitcohondria and chloroplasts need DNA for?
A
to transcribe, translate enzymes needed for photosynthesis and respiration
4
Q
what are the characteristics of DNA in chloroplasts and mitochondria?
A
- circular loop of dna
- short sequences
- no histones
