what is a potometer used for and how does it measure transpiration?
measure rate of water uptake from a plant, water uptake is proportional to transpiration
why should the plant be cut under water?
due the xylem constantly having a negative pressure, thats contantly pulling up water due to the cohesion tension theory, the air would also be pulled up, brekaing the contious column of water
why is protroleum jelly and rubber seals used?
-pretoleum jelly is waterproof, meaing that there is no water lost, only through transpiration
-it is air tight
why is the capillary tube lifted into the air to begin the practical?
to introduce an air bubble, to see how far it travels to measure water uptake of the plant
how do u restart the practical?
you open the tap
what is the formula for water uptake?
rate = volume /time
