unit 2, cell mediated immune response Flashcards
is phagocytosis specific or non specific?
non specific
where are t cells made?
made in the bone marrow, but mature in the thymus gland
what do t cells respond to?
APC cells, not antigens floating withing the blood or in body fluids
what are antigen presenting cells?
(APCs)
a cell that presents non self antigens on the surface of its membrane
eg) macrogphages after performing phagocytosis, infected self cell from a virus
what is the result of APC’s?
they activate T helper cells
what do T helper cells do?
-they are stimulated to divide by mitosis when attatched to non self antigen
-this forms clones
- clones examples) more t helper cells, macrophages , cytotocxic t cells, b cells, memory T cell
what do cytotoxic (killer) t cells do?
destroy infected or foreign cells by releasing protein, e.g, perforin which makes pores/holes in the membrane eventually causing the cytoplasm to burst due to susbstances leaving or exiting cell
process of cell mediated respone?
- pathogenic antigens are presented on the membranes of white blood cells after phagocytosis. APC’s.
-t helper cells respond first, they have receptors that are complementary to the antigens, which they attatch to
-this stimulates t cells to divide by mitosis creating clones, they differentiate and form) more t helper cells, cytotoxic t cells, b cell, memory T cell
what do t helper cell clones differentiate into?
- cytotoxic t cells
-B cells
-phagocytosis
-memory T cells
