UNIT 3 - Ch. 27 Sensation, Perception, Response Flashcards
Define Sensory Perception
The ability to receive and interpret (recognize) sensory impressions through sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing.
What is the purpose of sensation?
To allow the body to respond to changing situations and maintain homeostasis
Define reception

What do thermal receptors in the skin find?
Changes in the skin’s temperature
What do photoreceptors in the eye detect?
Visible light
What is sensory deprivation?

Define sensory overload
Stimuli such as pain, sounds, odor, sights, and routines overwhelms the pt’s senses
