training methods Flashcards
what is the type of training methods
- interval training
- continuous training
- fartlek training
- resistance strength training
- isometric strength training
- circuit training
- plyometrics
- flexibility training
what is interval training
Comprises a series of a short repeated short bursts of exercise interrupted by periods of rest. Consists of a work interval, recovery interval, multiple sets and repetition. Interval training can be long and short and targets aerobic and anaerobic capabilities.
what is continuous training
Involves sustained activity for a period of between 20 to 60 minutes. It improves aerobic capacity and minimised the accumulation of lactic acid to enable rapid recovery.
what is fartlek training?
Fartlek training involves regular changing in pace. These changes of pace improve both anaerobic and aerobic capabilities
what is resistance strength training
Involves performing a series of exercises with resistance, using either free weights or variable resistance machines.
what is isometric training
Involves contracting a muscle against an immovable resistance whereby the muscle exerts a force but there is no movement if the joint
what is circuit training
A circuit is a number of stations that are arranged in an area to be completed at any intensity. The specific activities included in the circuit are determined by the objectives of the training program
what is plyometrics training
Is a specialised form of power training involving the rapid eccentric contraction of muscle then followed by concentric contraction
what is flexibility training
flexibility training can include passive, active, isometric, and dynamic stretching to improve an individual’s flexibility around a joint.
