Summation of Forces Flashcards
what is force summation
Force summation Is the combination of forces produced by different parts of the body. Its purpose is to achieve maximum force and acceleration and apply it to an object
what two categories can force summation to be broken down into
- simultaneous force summation
- sequential force summation
what are examples of simultaneous force summation
- higher jumper and long jumper propelling themselves in the air
- sprinter explosively moves parts of the body at the start of a race
what are the four principles of sequential force summation
- Use as many body parts that relate to the movement as possible
- Body parts should move in a sequence – larger muscles move before smaller muscles
- Muscles need to be used with the correct timing
- All muscles used must go through their greatest range of motion to achieve
what are factors which can affect someone’s balance
- base of support
- centre of gravity
- points of contact on the ground
what is the base of support
The base of support refers to the area beneath an object including every point of contact that the person makes with the surface supporting them
how can the base of support be increased
increasing the number or spreading out the points of contact will increase the base of support
how can you increase your balance in terms of your centre of gravity
lowering your centre of gravity will increase your overall balance
what are the two forms of balance
- static balance
2. dynamic balance
what is static balance
static balance is being able to maintain a stationary position throughout the movement
what is an example of static balance
balancing on one foot
what is dynamic balance
dynamic balance is having the ability to maintain your balance while in motion
what is an example of dynamic balance
- tight rope walker
