what is sperm and where is it made?
male gametes made in the testes
what is the urethra?
a tube which carries sperm through the penis during ejaculation. urine also passes through the urethra to exit the body
what is the erectile tissue?
swells when filled with blood, to make the penis erect
what are the testes?
where sperm are made
what are the glands in the male reproductive system?
produce the liquid that’s added to sperm to make semen
what are the vas deferens?
the sperm duct - the muscular tube that carries sperm from the testes towards the urethra
what is the scrotal sac?
scrotum - hangs behind the penis and contains the testes
what is an egg/ovum and where is it produced?
eggs are female gametes and are produced every 28 days from one of the two ovaries
where are eggs passed into after the ovaries?
the fallopian tube, where it might meet sperm that have entered the vagina during sexual intercourse
what happens if the egg isn’t fertilised?
the egg will break up and pass out of the vagina
what happens if the egg is fertilised?
the egg starts to divide. the new cell will travel down the fallopian tube to the uterus and attach to the uterus lining. a fertilised egg develops into an embryo
what is the fallopian tube?
oviduct - a muscular tube that carries the ovum(egg) from the ovary to the uterus
what is the uterus?
the womb - where an embryo grows
what is the ovary?
the organ that produces ova(eggs) and sex hormones
what is the endometrium?
the uterus lining - has a good blood supply for embryo implantation
