Topic 3 - Rate Of Photosynthesis Flashcards
what is a limiting factor?
something which stops photosynthesis from happening any faster
what can limiting factors be?
light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature
what do limiting factors depend on?
environmental conditions
how does light intensity affect photosynthesis?
chlorophyll uses light energy to perform photosynthesis
if the light intensity is increased, the rate of photosynthesis will increase up to a point. beyond that, increasing light intensity won’t make a difference as light isn’t the limiting factor.
how does carbon dioxide concentration affect photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide is needed for photosynthesis.
if the carbon dioxide concentration is increased, the rate of photosynthesis will increase up to a point. beyond that, increasing carbon dioxide concentration won’t make a difference as carbon dioxide concentration isn’t the limiting factor.
how does temperature affect photosynthesis?
temperature affects the rate of photosynthesis as it affects the enzymes involved
as temperature increases, so does the rate of photosynthesis, up to a point.
if the temperature is too high, enzymes are denatured, decreasing the rate of photosynthesis.
