Topic 6.3: Components of fitness Flashcards
Definition of Health components of fitness
- Health related factors are physiologically based
- Determine the ability of an individual to meet the physical demands of the activity
Definition of skill related (fitness/performance) components of fitness
- Skill related factors are based upon the neuromuscular system
- Determine how successful a person can perfom a specific skill
What are the components of Health? (5)
- Body composition
- Cardio - vascular (respiratory) fitness - aerobic capicity
- Flexibility
- Muscular strength
- Muscular endurance
What are the components of fitness of Skills? (7)
- Agility
- Speed
- Balance
- Power
- Reaction time
- Endurance
- Coordination
Body composition
The relation of fat mass to free fat mass (bones, muscles, etc…)
Cardio - vascular (respiratory) fitness
The ability to take in, deliver and use oxygen for use by the aerobic or oxidative energy system
Flexibility
Ability to move through the full range of movement around a joint
Muscular strength
The maximum force that can be generated in a muscle or group of muscles in a single maximal contraction
Muscular Endurance
- Ability of a muscle or muscle group to maintain force or power
OR
- Ability of a particular muscle group to keep working at the desired level of effort for as long as the situation demands
Agility
The ability to change direction at speed with control
Balance
Refers to the stability of the body
Coordination
Ability to move two or more body parts under control, smoothly and efficiently
Reaction Time
Time taken to initate a respone to a given stimilus
Speed
Change of distance with respect to time when movement occurs. This can refer to whole body speed or speed of a particular joint or muscle group
Power
Ability to exert maximum muscular contraction instantly in an explosive burst of movements with combination of strength and speed. A powerful movement is achieved as quickly as possibble, while importing as much strength as possible
