Topic 4 - Bioenergetics ( 9. exercise ) Flashcards
what happens to glycogen during exercise?
glycogen in muscles is converted back to glucose to provide fuel for increased cellular respiration
What is the name of the carbohydrate used to store glucose in muscles?
Glycogen
Give the 4 changes that take place in your body during exercise
- Heart rate increases
- Arteries and veins dilate (widen)
- Breathing rate increases and you breathe more deeply
- Glycogen in muscles is turned back into glucose
Why does your body’s heart rate increases and arteries dilate (widen) when you exercise?
To increase the flow of oxygenated blood to your muscles, also increase the rate that CO2 is removed from cells
Why does your body’s breathing rate increases and you breathe more deeply when you exercise?
It increase the rate oxygen is brought into the body, meaning your RBC pick up more oxygen to take to cells. Also CO2 is removed from the body more quickly
