Topic 1a - cell structure and cell division ( 6. Binary fission ) Flashcards
1
Q
what is binary fission?
A
prokaryotic cells such as bacteria replicate in a simple type of cell division called binary fission. the cell makes 2 copies of its genetic material before splitting
2
Q
process?
A
- circular DNA and plasmids replicate
- cell gets bigger and DNA and plasmids move to either end of the cell.
- cytoplasm begins to divide and new cells walls begin to form.
- once divided 2 daughter cells are produced. each cell has one copy of circular DNA but can have multiple plasmids than before.
