Topic 4 - Bioenergetics ( 4. investigating photosynthesis rate ) Flashcards
1
Q
what type of pondweed do we use
A
canadian pondweed
2
Q
what determines the rate of photosynthesis
A
the rate at which the pondweed produces oxygen corresponds to the rate at which it’s photosynthesising. faster the rate of oxygen production the faster the rate of photosynthesis
3
Q
state how the experiment is carried out
A
- the source of light is placed at a specific distance from the pondweed
- pondweed is left to photosynthesis for a specific amount of time. oxygen released will be collected in the capillary tube.
- at the end a syringe is used to draw up the amount of oxygen produced. And the volume of o2 can be measured.
- experiment should be repeated the same 2 times to increase the reliability of results, and then change one of the variables e.g. the light intensity, co2 levels, distance, temperature.
