2 headsets 2 1620 keys attached to headsets 2 amplifiers "Y" connector 2 jumper cords t-handle subway key Screwdriver ( to change amplifier) 4 glow sticks Laminated instruction sheet
SPT Wire reel
400 foot long wire around wheel inside plastic case
3 foot fixed Wire coming out side of reel
Both ends have female connectors
Headset connected to fixed wire
Reels stored with end of long wire looped around handle
Jumper cord
Is small wire with to male connectors
Used between two female connectors
Y connector
Short section that is used to split the sound powered telephone system to allow additional communication points
Has one male and 2 female connections
Amplifiers
Increase volume of verbal transmissions
Not required
Has two cords :
8” long cord with female connector that stitches to Hearst
42” long cord has male connector that attached to SPT system
Amplifiers have two controls
- Talk level knob that controls the volume and shall be placed in the highest setting when in use
- PTA ( push to amplify ) button .. Must be pressed and held whenever the user wants to transmit message
ONCE MESSAGE COMPLETE THE PTA BUTTON MUST BE RELEASED OR REPLY WILL NOT BR HEARD
Using sound powered phones
1.Start and End points determined
2. Wire from bottom of reel pulled out a few feet and secured at starting point
Wire plays out as member carries reel towards end point
Need more than one reel jumper cords are used to connect the short wire of one reel to the long wire of next reel
4 once wire is stretched to end point listening devices and amplifiers are connected at each end
5 specific members shall be dedicated to maintain SPT link paired up with HT EQUIPT member
6 member using SPT must constantly li listen cause no ring or tone will be emitted
7, member using headset in standbys position ( awaiting transmission )should cover mouthpiece with hand to reduce background noise
What is preferred listening device when using SPT
Headsets
Street. Level boxes
Open with 1620 key
SPT connectors found near the standpipe Siamese with a sign that reads STREET To STATION COMMUNICATIONS
STANDPIPE SIAMESE with connector not always found closet to subway entrance
May always be found in middle of roadways
Platform or Mezzanine level SPT connections
On platform or mezzanine located in red metal boxes inside stainless steel standpipe cabinets

Cabinets ID by sign located above standpipe outlet showing a white hose on red background
Combo standpipe / SPT boxes may be located on columns or station wall
If no SPT outlet located in standpipe outlet box Look in surrounding area for small individual cabinet
Street to tunnel systems
Usually include a specific pair of tubes
SPT connectors are typically located at street level connections closet to emergency exits on both sides of under river tubes
In under river tubes standpipe connectors are found at standpipe outlets approximately 200 feet a part

Sound powered phones installed in all under river tubes except
Joraleman street tunnel
What is only required maintenance for us for the SPT system
Changing 9 volt battery in amplifier
