Apparatus P-3 Flashcards
Pro pressure governor (PPG) is
Computer that controls the discharge pressure of the pump by controlling engine RPMS
Pump idle pressure is equal too
The pressure the pumps provide at its lowest rpms ( around 55 in volume and 110 in pressure ) plus water intake pressure from water source eg. ( 50 psi from hydrant plus 55 from volume will equal 105 psi pump idle pressure )
If you have a pressure on the LED screen of your PPG that is less than pump idle pressure what will happen
PPG will be in active to that point
Can you use the PPG in rpm mode
FDNY I pressure mode only
Note in emergency can be used if pressure mode malfunctions in this case any hoselines operating should not advance and should back out to area of safe refuge
Static pressure
Pressure indicated on the intake pressure gauge when water not flowing
Residual pressure is
Once water is flowing the intake pressure will drop on the intake pressure gauge this is residual pressure and indicates the remaining capability of the water supply
Flow meters
Measures rare of flow of water in a confined space as it passes through a given space a given time
Only register reading when water flowing
Represented in GPM
Charging pump
- insure all drains discharges and inlets are closed
- Open hydrant fully
- If supplying into gated inlet must open fare fully
NOTE IF GOING INTO gated inlet then open drain prior to opening gated inlet to expel air
If residual pressure drops below what you need to augment
15 psi
When should you prime the pumps
After water is introduced into pumps before increasing pump pressures and before opening any discharge gate
If using the transfer valve the pump presure gauge should read no more than _____psi above the intake pressure gauge
50psi
Who do you notify if intake pressure drops below 15 psi
IC
If drafting water you should be in volume or pressure
Volume
Line pressure is a product of
Size +number of lengths +nozzle pressure and elevation
1 3/4 hose with 1 5/16 nozzle = 50 psi at nozzle + 20 psi per length friction loss + 5 psi per floor a above grade
21/2 hose with 1 1/8 nozzle = 40 psi @ nozzle + 5 psi per floor friction loss plus 5psi per floor
