EMG 1 Elevator Ops Flashcards
Elevator Emergency exist when
- Fire endangering persons in stuck elevator
- Passengers in stuck elevator are injured
- Passengers in stuck elevator in panic
Elevator incident is describe as
A stuck elevator with trapped passengers not in immediate danger and no evidence of injury
NOTE: conditions must be constantly be monitored an incident may escalate into an emergency
What is the most frequent cause of elevator malfunctions?
Electrical
Primary removal procedures are simple procedures without turning the power off . They are
- Checking electrical contacts (emergency stop button must be deactivated )
- Fireman service ( overrides emergency stop)
Turn off when car responds or obvious car isn’t responding)
Order of using primary does not matter
Try all
Governor Rope is located
On either side near one of the far corners of shaft
If ropes moving do not open hoist way door
Which method of locating A elevator will give you an exact location
Using the floor selector in the machinery room
After attempting to use primary methods t move a stalled elevator and these methods fail, call the mechanic before starting secondary procedures the number will be located
Required to posted in machinery room near eel stir power removal switch
May be in lobby near elevator lobby control switch
May start secondary procedure before mechanic arrives
When performing secondary or emergency procedures the power must be removed before these procedures are initiated . Send two HT EQUIPPED MEMBERS With FE tools to the elevator machinery room which may be located
Top of shaft
Bottom of shaft
Or two levels above the highest floor serviced by the elevator
When passengers are removed from stalled cars that are between floors they should be removed
Up and out if practical
Restarting a stuck elevator after a power is removed is not normally done . However if a building has a two speed system typically found in buildings over 10 stories, this may be attempted . The procedure is
- Make sure emergency stop button is deactivated
- Members in machinery room shut power to stuck car than then on again
- If car will restart it will restart within 10 seconds
Using the poling method from adjacent hoist way
- Have member work from adjacent car nearest the leading edge side of stuck car
- Adjacent car positioned to give access to upper portion of stuck car
- Member inserts poling tool or hook between the striking post and the hoist way door and trips the lock by depressing the roller or pushing the locking arm
Hinge depress roller
Sliding arm door - push up on locking arm
When encountering a zone locking device on a hinge type door you should do what to release it
Depress the lever to release the zone lock
When encountering a zone lock device on a sliding type door now will you disengage the lock
Lift rod straight up
Emergency removal procedures at elevator emergencies should only by used in an emergency or when directly advised by an elevator mechanic . These emergency methods are either top hatch removal or side exit removal . Top hatch removal is accomplished in the following manner
Top hatch removal :
Open hoist way door or access panel on floor above stuck care
Provide adequate lighting
Lower portable to elevator roof ( preferable straight ladder )
May use extension ladder but tie both sections of ladder with halyard
Climb down to roof (max 2 members on roof )
All members in shaft are secured with LSR
Open top hatch (wrench/screwdriver or FE tools )
Small portable ladder into elevator
One member with ht into elevator who determines order of removal and secure each person with LSR members remain in physical contact with trapped person while being removed
Side edit removal
Useful under conditions of partial power loss in multicast hoistways
Members work from a car that is in same bank and is adjacent to stuck elevator
If mechanic present use his key to bring car level
* remove power to rescue car *
Open side exit in rescue car (key or FE tools to open panel from inside )
Open side exit of stuck car (openable by hand from shaft side )
Planks of sufficient length (6’or longer) should be used to bridge member with ht and LSR attached moves into stuck car
Member determines order and secure passengers with LSR
After passengers are remove restore power to rescue car
