Q

Using the poling method from adjacent hoist way

A
  1. Have member work from adjacent car nearest the leading edge side of stuck car
  2. Adjacent car positioned to give access to upper portion of stuck car
  3. Member inserts poling tool or hook between the striking post and the hoist way door and trips the lock by depressing the roller or pushing the locking arm

Hinge depress roller

Q

Emergency removal procedures at elevator emergencies should only by used in an emergency or when directly advised by an elevator mechanic . These emergency methods are either top hatch removal or side exit removal . Top hatch removal is accomplished in the following manner

A

Top hatch removal :
Open hoist way door or access panel on floor above stuck care
Provide adequate lighting
Lower portable to elevator roof ( preferable straight ladder )
May use extension ladder but tie both sections of ladder with halyard
Climb down to roof (max 2 members on roof )
All members in shaft are secured with LSR
Open top hatch (wrench/screwdriver or FE tools )
Small portable ladder into elevator
One member with ht into elevator who determines order of removal and secure each person with LSR members remain in physical contact with trapped person while being removed

Q

Side edit removal

A

Useful under conditions of partial power loss in multicast hoistways
Members work from a car that is in same bank and is adjacent to stuck elevator
If mechanic present use his key to bring car level
* remove power to rescue car *
Open side exit in rescue car (key or FE tools to open panel from inside )
Open side exit of stuck car (openable by hand from shaft side )
Planks of sufficient length (6’or longer) should be used to bridge member with ht and LSR attached moves into stuck car
Member determines order and secure passengers with LSR
After passengers are remove restore power to rescue car

15
Q

Forcible entry should only be attempted

A

Should only be attempted under direct advisement of elevator mechanic or as a last resort during emergency removal procedures after FE of door have maintenance secure door or have police or security warn people of danger

16
Q

What is the preferred method of FE on a sliding type door

A

Air bags

17
Q

If using traditional FE to force sliding type door

A

Go to landing directly above
Us e FE tools to lift hoistways door out of its guide
Tilt bottom of the hoistways door slightly into shaft , just enough to fit hook
Reach. Down with hook and pull lock arm

18
Q

Jump pits

A

Usually 4’-6’ from lowest level to base of pit
Elevator descends within a couple of feet of the bottom of shaft
Pit entered by opening lowest hoistway door and using portable ladder
Operations in jump pit
Shut power
Open lowest hoistway door
Use portable
Trip lower limit switch and secure in open position

19
Q

Walk in pits

A

6-10 feet from lowest landing to base of pit
Ca r descends to floor level above bottom of shaft
High buffer and lower limit switch prevent the cat from entering the pit
Access to the pit via door located at bottom of shaft ( not required to have interlock and opened with regular key not 1620)
Operations in walk in pits
Shut power
Enter via pit door
If fire be cautious of buffers
In extreme emergency may enter pit without shutting power ( open hoistway door )

20
Q

Fireman service key switch must be within how many feet of lobby call button

A

4 feet

21
Q

Fireman service HOLD position

A

Permits the FF to remove the 1620 key from switch
FF can leave car and elevator cannot be moved without key if another ff wants to move elevator that is in hold must inform ffs operating on that floor

22
Q

Is the 1620 key removable from elevator car keyed switch when it is fireman service

A

No it is not

23
Q

All elevators will have a two position key switch at fire command station

A

No just elevators whose terminal floor are above street level (sky lobby)

24
Q

Automatic recall of elevators will occur when

A

Activation of elevator landing smoke detector

Water flow from sprinkler system

25
Q

If phase 1 of elevators was initiated Manually before out arrival than

A

Lobby key switch will be in fireman service
Place key switch momentarily in normal (OFF)
Then return to firman service position this will cause all elevator doors to open

26
Q

If phase 1 of elevator recall was initiated automatically (lobby smoke detectors or sprinkler flow) then

A

Place keyed switch in “DOOR OPEN “ position

In older installations the doors of non fireman service elevator will not open these elevators will have to open by use of emergency hoistway door key
