Special Disposal Requirements?
Authorized Controlled Substances Disposal Program (DEA Diversion Drug Disposal)
* Disposal & Documentation by Licensed Professional (RPh, RN, LPN) + Witnessed By Another Adult (>18)
In Iowa - Drug Disposal is as Follows:
* Utilize services of DEA-registered & Iowa-Licensed Disposal Firm (Reverse Distributor)

* Contact the Board Office for Assistance
Patient Waste/Disposal?
July 1, 2021: IA Pharmacist Can Submit Electronic Claims for Reimbursement of Dispose Rx (or other company) if At Risk of Opioid Misuse/Overdose.
* All IA patients eligible to receive 2 free disposal kits every 30 days (No Rx Required)
* Pharmacy will be reimbursed $7.50 for providing disposal kit & information (BIN / PCN may be needed)
* Request Kit at pmp@iowa.gov

May be returned, exchanged, or resold only if pharmacist deems integrity has not been compromised
Controlled Substances:
Only Used On Same Patient
Unit Dose Returns:
Returned & Reused as Authorized
(Except if Controlled Substance)
Personal Contact Items:
Pharmacy cannot accept, reuse, resale any items removed from original package or container after sale.
