License/Registration Required to be a Intern Pharmacist?
New (657-4.6):
- Every person must register with the board prior to internship hours.
- Students must be enrolled upon commencement of 1st professional year in IA PharmD Program.
Foreign (657-4.7):
- Yes, registration is required prior to internship hours.
- Must also achieve certificate from Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC)
Who Can Apply to be a Intern Pharmacist ?
New (657-4.1):
1) IA Interns in IA PharmD Program
2) IA Interns in another state’s PharmD Program
3) Out of State Interns in IA PharmD Program
4) Graduates of approved PharmD Program
5) Individuals participating in fellowship/residency
Foreign (657-4.7):
Those who have established educational equivalency acquiring practical experience for IA pharmacist licensure.
Intern Pharmacist Application Fee?
$30 (657-4.8)
Intern Pharmacist Hours Required?
1500 Hours (657-4.3)
Current Enrollment / Good Standing Required to be an Intern Pharmacist?
Registration shall remain in effect as long as the board is satisfied that the intern is pursuing a degree in pharmacy in good faith with reasonable diligence [(657-4.6(3)]
Preceptor Required during Intern Pharmacist Hours?
Yes - a Preceptor is Required.
1) Licensed pharmacist in good standing
2) Can supervise no more than 2 pharmacist-interns concurrently
3) Responsible for all functions performed by pharmacist intern (657-4.9).
