What is the second layer of the tract?
Submucosa which is a thick connective tissue layer containing blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerves
What is the inner most layer of the tract called and what is it made of?
The mucosa which is stratified squamous in mouth, anal cavity, oropharynx and oesophagus and and simple columnar epithelium everywhere else
What is the third layer of the tract and what are its two layers?
The muscularis which has an inner layer of smooth muscle and an outer layer of longitudinal muscle
What is the final layer of the tract?
The serosa or the serous membrane which consists of a thin connective tissue covering and a simple squamous epithelium layer which secretes fluid
What is the difference between serosa and Adventia?
some regions have adventia not serosa with the difference being that the function changes and it acts as a binding substance which blends to the connective tissue in the oral cavity, pharynx, oesophagus and rectum
