Liver Flashcards
What is the round ligament of the liver?
Thickening in posterior margin
What is the falciform ligament of the liver?
A fold of peritoneum that divides the right and left lobe and joins it to the anterior abdominal wall
Describe the lobes of the liver?
Big right lobe
small left lobe
Cuadate lobe between left lobe and IVC
Quadate lobe next to gall bladder and left lobe
What is the porta hepatis?
Contains the:
common hepatic duct which leaves the liver transporting bile
The hepatic artery proper enters the liver
The portal vein enters the liver
What are the lobes divided into?
Liver lobules (about 100,000)
What shape are the liver lobules and what plates do they contain?
Hexagonal and plates of hepatocytes
What is between the hepatocyte plates of the liver lobules and what kind of cells are in these walls?
Liver sinusoids where oxygenated blood (from the arties) and deoxygenate blood mix (veins)
Kuppfer cells between walls which contain macrophages
Each corner of the hexagonal lobule has a portal triad: what is contained here?
A branch of the hepatic artery
A branch of the portal vein
A branch of the hepatic bile duct
Where does the mixed oxygenated and deoxygenated blood of the go from the sinusoids?
The central vein > hepatic vein > IVC
Where is bile collected and where is it transported?
The canaliculi > bile duct at the portal triad > right and left hepatic ducts > common hepatic duct > porta hepatis
What produces bile??
The hepatocytes
How is the liver supplied with blood that is 30% oxygenated blood??
Hepatic artery proper (a branch of the common hepatic artery from the coeliac trunk)
What is the vein that supplies the liver with deoxygenated blood (70%)
The portal vein
Where does the portal vein and hepatic artery proper enter the liver?
The porta hepatis
