The anterior compartment of the arm - vessels (dave's notes) Flashcards
Which compartment of the arm carries the neurovascular bundle?
The anterior compartment
What vessels supply the extensor compartment?
The circumflex vessels and axillary nerve are given off to the extensor compartment (?via the quadrangular space)
What leaves the neurovascular bundle through the triangular space?
The radial nerve and profunda brachii
Describe the brachial artery
A continuation of the axillary artery (name change at the lower border of teres major, accompanied by venue comitantes)
Where does the median nerve lie relative to the brachial artery?
The median nerve lies lateral then obliquely crosses in front to lie medially
Where does the ulnar nerve lie relative to the brachial artery?
Posteriorly above, and then leaves the artery through ??MIMS
Describe the course of the brachial artery
The vessel is superficial throughout its course in the arm (lies immediately deep to the deep fascia)
What does the brachial artery divide into? Where?
Radial (direct, and ulna (90’ branch) in the cubital fossa
What is the largest branch of the brachial artery? What is its course?
The profunda brachii, leaving through the lower triangular space (runs in the radial groove)
Other than its terminal branches, the profunda, and the circumflex vessels, what vessels does the brachial artery give off?
Also the superior ulnar collateral (accompanies the nerve) and the inferior ulnar collateral artery (anterior and posterior branch)
What are the veins of the arm?
Venae comitantes
Basilic
Cephalic
Where are the venue comitantes found?
Accompanying the brachial artery and all branches
What is the course of the basilic vein?
The basilic vein courses upwards and perforates the deep fascia in the middle of the arm
What is the course of the cephalic vein?
The cephalic vein lies lateral to biceps brachilis, then in the deltopectoral groove to pierce the clavipectoral fascia before entering the axillary vein
List the branches of the brachial artery
