Lymph nodes in the axilla (dave's notes) Flashcards
How many lymph nodes are in the axilla?
approximately 35-50 nodes?
What group of nodes is found along the medial wall of the axilla?
The anterior or pectoral group
From where does the anterior or pectoral group of nodes receive lymph?
The upper half of the anterior trunk and breast.
What group of nodes is found on the posteromedial wall of the axilla?
The posterior or subscapular group
What does the posterior or subscapular group of nodes receive lymph from?
The upper half of the posterior trunk and the axillary tail
Where does the lateral group of nodes lie?
Along the medial side of the axillary vein
What lymph does the lateral group of nodes receive?
From the upper limb
What lies in the fat of the axilla?
The central group of nodes
What does the central group receive?
Lymph from the lateral, posterior and anterior groups
What group is found in the apex of the axilla?
The apical group.
What lymph does the apical group receive?
From all of the lateral, posterior, anterior and central groups
To where does the apical group drain?
The supraclavicular nodes, then to the thoracic duct or right lymphatic trunk
