Adductor pollicis, radial artery in the hand, ulnar nerve in the hand (dave's notes) Flashcards
Describe the general location of adductor pollicis
Lies deeply in the palm in contact with metacarpals and interossei. Two heads, transverse and oblique.
What is the origin and insertion of the transverse head of adductor pollicis?
Origin: Arises from the whole length of the 3rd metacarpal
Insertion: Inserts at the ulnar sesamoid of the thumb
What is the origin and insertion of the oblique head of adductor pollicis?
The oblique head arises from the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal to insert at the ulnar sesamoid
What is the nerve supply to adductor pollicis?
The deep branch of the ulnar nerve
What is the course of the radial artery in the hand?
Slopes across the anatomical snuffbox over trapezium, to between the 1st dorsal interossei and adductor pollicis
What branches does the radial artery give off in the hand? What is its destination thereafter?
Arteria radialis indicis
Princeps pollicis, then passes to the deep palmar arch
What is the deep palmar arch?
An arterial arcade (usually complete 1cm proximal to the superficial palmar arch) the combines with the deep branch of the ulnar artery
How does the ulnar nerve enter the hand?
Beneath the FCU tendon, then upon the flexor retinaculum, where it divides into superficial and deep branches
What does the superficial branch of the ulnar nerve supply?
Palmaris brevis, then continues on as the digital nerves to the ulnar 1 1/2 fingers
What does the deep branch of the ulnar nerve supply?
The three hypothenar muscles, two lumbricals, all interossei, and the two heads of adductor pollicis
