The anterior compartment of the arm - nerves (dave's notes) Flashcards
What are the nerves of the anterior compartment of the anterior compartment of the arm?
Median Musculocutaneous ulnar medial cutaneous nerve of the arm Intercostobrachial
Where is the median nerve formed? From what?
Formed at the lower border of the axilla by union of medial and lateral roots
What is found between the roots of the median nerve?
The axillary artery
Where does the median nerve lie relative to the brachial artery?
In front of the artery, crossing from lateral to medial sides
What are the branches of the median nerve in the arm?
No branches, but does give sympathetic fibres and a twig to the elbow joint
What is the nerve to the flexor compartment of the arm?
Musculocutaneous
What branches does the musculocutaneous nerve give off?
A twig to the shoulder joint, a branch to coracobrachialis and elbow
What is the location of the musculocutaneous nerve?
Lies between biceps and brachilis supplying both muscles
What is the terminal branch of the musculocutaneous nerve?
The remaining fibres become the lateral cutaneous nerve to the FOREarm
Where is the ulnar nerve found in the arm?
Lying posterior to the vessels, then inclines further back piercing MIMS ???.
What are the branches of the ulnar nerve in the arm?
No branches here
What is the course of the medial cutaneous nerve to the forearm?
A small nerve, lies anterior to the vessels, pierces the deep fascia of the upper arm supplying skin on the front and medial side of the upper part of the arm.
What does the intercostobrachial nerve arise from? Where does it go?
This is the lateral cutaneous branch of the second intercostal nerve. Supplies the axilla and skin on the medial side of the upper arm
What lymph nodes like along the cephalic vein?
Where are the supratrochlear nodes found?
The infraclavicular group.
The supratrochlear nerve lies in the subcutaneous fat above the medial epicondyle.
