Q

What is coronary circulation?

A

Blood reaches the cardiac muscle via coronary arteries which carry blood to capillaries that supply the heart muscle with O2 and nutrients then blood is returned to the RA via the coronary veins

Q

Why would it be useful for the heart to separate its blood into oxygenated and deoxygenates

A

To maintain a high concentration gradient so the blood can exchange nutrients

Q

Why is it odd that the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood

A

Veins usually carry deoxygenated blood from the body back into the heart (e.g vena cava) BUT the pulmonary vein uniquely carriers oxygenated blood instead into the heart (LA)

Q

Why is it odd that the pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood

A

Arteries usually carry oxygenated blood e.g (aorta pumps to the body) BUT the pulmonary arteries uniquely pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs
