but punished the belatedness of the student.

Indeed, to believe in something untrue

不察之患也

and kill the innocent subjects
is a calamity caused by not scrutinizing.

且人所急無如其身
A
Moreover, what a man feels anxious for
is nothing other than his own self.

不能自使其無死
安能使王長生哉
A
If he could not make himself immortal,
how could he make the King live forever?
