What are the 4 steps of a clinical examination?
Inspection, Palpation, Percussion and Ausultation
How do you assess joint function and pathology?
Look- inflammation, assemetry, how limb is held
Feel- temperature, bony, soft tissues around joint, crepitus (grinding)
Move- active or passive, resisted, to extremes
Where is the Mastoid process?
Bony lump behind ear
Where is the Nasal bone and cartilage?
Bone at the top of the nose and cartilage is the moveable part of the nose
Where is the Zygomatic arch?
cheek bone- can feel superficial temporal pulse
Where is the Angle of Mandible?
Corner of jaw
Where is the Hyoid bone?
Little muscle at the top of the neck
Where is the Thyroid Cartilage?
Neck- Just above the thyroid gland
Where is the Cricoid cartilage?
Neck- just below thyroid cartilage
Where is the sternocleidomastoid muscle?
Connects the jaw to the clavicle
Where is the C7 vertebra spinous process?
Back of the neck at the top
Where is the Manubriosternal joint?
sternal angle at the top of the sternum
Where are the nipples?
4th intercostal space, start of the liver
Where are the costal margins?
Bottom of each rib
Where are the Intercostal spaces?
Named after the rib above it
