Stimulates insulin secretion from functional pancreatic beta cells.

Administered orally - good bioavailability (80%)
Protein-bound - volume of distribution approx 20L
Hepatic metabolism to inactive metabolites
Half-life approx 12hrs
Predominantly renally excreted

What are the potential adverse effects of gliclazide?
A
Hypoglycaemia.
GI upset: N, V, D, abdo pain. Rash / pruritis.
