Describe the mechanism of action of acyclovir.
A
Inhibits viral DNA synthesis. It is a guanosine analogue.

Describe the pharmacokinetics of acyclovir.
A
Half life approx 3hrs.
Oral bioavailability only 15-20%.
Widely distributed, crosses CSF.
Mostly excreted unchanged in urine.

Name some side effects of acyclovir.
A
Generally well-tolerated, but can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, seizures.
