  • prevents the bacterial synthesis of FOLIC ACID (important for the chemical structure of DNA/RNA *considered also ANTIMETABOLITES

  • can cause SULFA ALLERGIC REACTIONS
  • can cause PHOTOSENSITIVITY *sunburn
  • STEVEN-JOHNSON SYNDROME
  • Hemolytic anemia *if patient has G6PD deficiency
  • GI, hepatic, renal complications
