Sulci and Gyri of the Brain Flashcards
What is the cerebral cortex?
Outer part of the cerebral hemisphere composed of grey matter
What are the 3 regions which form the brainstem?
- Midbrain
- Pons
- Medulla oblongata
What are the 3 distinct regions of the brain?
- Forebrain
- Midbrain
- Hindbrain
What 3 things form the forebrain?
- Hypothalamus
- Thalamus
- Cerebral hemispheres
What 3 things form the hindbrain?
- Pons
- Medulla oblongata
- Cerebellum
What runs between the two cerebral hemispheres?
Longitudinal fissure
What 3 arteries make up the arterial supply of the cerebrum?
- Anterior cerebral artery
- Middle cerebral artery
- Posterior cerebral artery
Where does the anterior cerebral artery supply?
Medial surface till parietooccipital sulcus and one inch strip on lateral surface
Where does the middle cerebral artery supply?
Lateral surface of cerebrum except for a narrow strip up (ant cerebral artery) and down (post cerebral artery)
Where does the posterior cerebral artery supply?
Occipital pole and inferior surface on medial and lateral sides
What are the 2 sulci found on the superolateral surface of frontal lobe of the brain?
- Superior frontal
2. Inferior frontal
What are the 2 sulci found on the superolateral surface of temporal lobe of the brain?
- Superior temporal
2. Inferior temporal
What is the sulcus found on the superolateral surface of the parietal lobe of the brain?
Intra-parietal
Name the gyri found on the brain from a midsagittal section

What are the 2 sulci found on the anterior inferior surface of the cerebrum?
- Olfactory sulcus
2. Orbital sulcus
