SOGs-27-Tools and Equipment Flashcards
What does an oxygen concentration gas sensor measure?
The concentration of oxygen and ambient air, expressed on metre in percentage
What does a comb/ex sensor measure?
The amount of combustible or explosive gas present in the environment
This amount is expressed in percentage of the LEL
What is the definition of carbon monoxide?
Colorless, odourless toxic gas that occurs as a result of incomplete combustion.
The Altair has a toxic gas sensor which measures the quantity of carbon monoxide in the environment.
This quantity is expressed in PPM
What is hydrogen sulphide foul smelling?
Naturally occurring toxic ass to tends to collect and sewers and has been known to be artificially created as a method of suicide.
The altair has a toxic gas sensor which measures the quantity of hydrogen sulphide(H2S) in the environment.
The quantity of H2S is expressed in PPM
What is the definition of a bump check?
A daily brief exposure of the monitor to known quantities of the target gases to verify the sensor recognition of the gas and the function of the alarms
What is the definition of a calibration?
A longer duration exposure of the detector to a known quantity of the target gases that allows a detector to adjust settings to the quantity of gas
What types of calls should prompt detector usage?
Unknown medical Trouble breathing Unconscious VSA Nausea Vomiting General feelings of being unwell
What should be done if abnormal readings on the 4 gas are encountered?
Remove all persons from building
Considering requesting the hazardous materials team
What are some things to remember when taking readings of an unknown area with the 4 gas detector?
Move slowly to allow time for detector to react
Readings should be taken above the head, waist level and at the ground level to account for various densities of gases in relation to ambient air
What is the process when checking in unknown area with the for gas detector?
Move in a systematic direction covering the entire area
Work from an area of known safety
Move inward to obtain readings
Once readings have been encountered retreat to the area of safety
Create a non-entry zone while awaiting utilities
How often are portable radios inspected and cleaned?
Visually inspected and cleaned each day
How are portable radios to be inspected?
external surfaces of radio are clean
All external controls and switches are functional
How are portable radios to be cleaned?
All external surfaces including front cover, housing assembly and battery case should be cleaned whenever a visual inspection reveals the presence of smudges grease and/or grime
How should visible grease and/or grime be cleaned off a portable radio?
Apply 0.5% dish detergent to water solution sparingly
Use a stiff nonmetallic short bristled brush
Use a soft absorbent lint free cloth or tissue to remove the solution and dry the radio
Ensure no water remains entrapped near connectors, cracks, or crevices
Cleaning will be performed weekly
How should a battery unit of a portable radio be cleaned?
One alcohol swab will be used to wipe the battery contact area
Another swab clean the battery housing crevices ensuring no dirt is lodged between the housing and battery crevice
Cleaning should be performed weekly
