What is the process when the order is given to hit a hydrant?

A

Obtain hydrant bag
Remove supply line from back of apparatus
Proceed past the hydrant about 3 m
Loop hose around the hydrant until the gate crosses the hose
Stand on the cross face the truck
Signal the driver to proceed

A

Step back completely out of the way

Process of physically hitting the hydrant?

A

Attach 65 mm hydrant gate to non-fire side
Fully open by turning the stem counterclockwise and flushing briefly by opening and then closing the gate
Remove the cap from the steamer port and attach supply line from the apparatus utilizing the 100 mm threaded stortz adaptor
When the driver requests water open the hydrant to charge the supply line
Proceed along supply line checking the line and couplings

Why must lengths of supply line shorter than 30 m be laid flat?

A

To ensure there are no twists which may uncover the line during charging
