What is thermal runaway?

A

Police Deffinitions

  1. Cold Zone - the areqa within the outer perimeter which is neither the hot nor warm zone
  2. Warm zone - an area seure by police where there is no know direct or immediate threat
  3. hot zone - an area accessible to or currently being utilized by the active attacker(s)
  4. Rescue Task Force (RTF) - Peel Region Police consier an RTF to be a minimum of 2 PRP officer with 2-4 firefighter with balilistic protective equipment who can be sent into the warm zone to assist with and/or triage patient and remove them to the CCP

The First arrive officer shall consider the following?

  1. inform communications of the situation immediately, particularly if the nature code does not match the sitation on arrival
  2. remainign in the cold zone
  3. access and egress routes into teh sceen when positioning apparatus, there will likelybe a large number of ambulances needed on scene to transport patients
  4. requesting additional resources
  5. requestin police and ambulance if not on sene already
  6. keeping the crew staged at the apparatus until the officer has gathered informatioin on what is happening on the scene - any personnel leaving the apparatus shall wear at a minimum bunker jacket and helmet to clearely identify themselves as BFES personnel
  7. not impeding the ongin gevacuation of the public from the scene. if any injured civilians make thier way to personnel, provide treatment and consider setting up a CCP if not already established
  8. Establishing communication with on-scene police as soon as possible
  9. designating a staging area early, avoiding areas with parked cars if possible(secondary improvised explosive devices are often aimed at first responders)
  10. assisting police as requested whicle remaining in the cold zone. if a crew find themselves in the warm zone they can assist patients as they exit. warmzone operations requires appropriate PPE and a poice escort
