What is talk around?
wwhen protable or moiel signals that are unable to reach the relay sites, ‘talk around’ or “simples” mode must be selected on the radio to allow for diret radio to radio communications

- Move 15 feet in any direction
- Move as close to a window as possible
- Re-orientate the radio 90 degrees in any direction

Switch radio to talk around to reply to calling portable then switch back the the trunked channel

Take two portable with them. One on trunked channel, one talk around.

9-13 minutes
break down
4-6 minutes allowing first response apparatus to arrive on scene
1-2 minutes allowing apparatus to give a fried initial report
4-5 minutes allowing the move-up apparatus to arrive at the vacant station or within the response zone

Who has the notify the on duty comms officers of out of service apparatus and when?
DC, Beginning of each shift

When are move ups initiated? (6)
- Once command is established and does no release other responding apparatus
- Once command has been established and has been committed to an emergency operation
- When status of returning apparatus is “out of service”
- When apparatus is take out of service for department busniess
- When numerous incoming calls are received reporting a serous emergencie
- When advised “patient VSA, starting defib portocal”

When only there is only one in service truck per station.
