Notifications of Fire and Explosions

When an incident meets certain criteria all assistant to ther fire marshal shall notify forthwith the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) Duty officer, officer of the fire Martial. What are these criteria?

A
  1. Fire or explosions resulting in fatality
  2. Fire or explosions requireing person(s) to be admitted with life threatening injurys as in-patient(s) to a hospital
  3. Explosions (where the explosion is suspected or known to be the primary event)
  4. FIres or explosions suspected of being incendairy (criminal)
  5. Fires or explosions where the loss is significant to the community
  6. fires or explosions involving circumstances that may result in widespread public concern(for example, evironmental hazard)
  7. Fire or explosions in multi residential occupancies where the fire spread or explosion imacted multiple units or where suspected fire code violations have directly impacted the circumstances of the event
  8. Fire or Explosions involving clandestine or illegal drug operations

When should fire departments call?

A

When suppression activities are at the stage that someone is available on-scene to probide detailed information/date.

A
  1. firefighter statements
  2. dispatch chonology
  3. IC report detailing suppression and overhaul activities
  4. fire prevention files
    * These may not be the only documents required

When are certain reports evaluated by the OFM?

A
  1. Notifications involving a fatality, life threatening injury, or explosion will be evaluated 24/7
  2. All other incidents will be evaluated from 7:30am - 9:00pm

A

if suspected of being involved in a serious incident (homicide, robbery, etc.), fatal, or life threatening injury.

What are additional factors that would delay OFM deployment to the next day

A
  1. scenes typically can only be examined dureing daylight hours
  2. travel after dark increases risks to staff expecially during seasonal challenges and when staff have not had the benifit of a full nights rest
  3. it is un realisitc to deploy on-call staff across the province overnight when required modes of travel are not available
